Beaches in Brazil. 8-Dec-2011 .BrazilBeachTravel
Farol de Santa Marta, a beach village that is part of Laguna, is one of the least known destinations in southern Brazil

Farol de Santa Marta </em>, located in the municipality of Laguna and south of the state of Santa Catarina, despite its beauties and natural attractions, is still a beach destination almost unknown to most foreigners who visit the south of Brazil.

Access that is not entirely simple has allowed it to remain reasonably aloof from mass tourism, the first obstacle is not having a nearby airport - the closest one is Florianópolis at 130 kilometers - and the itineraries of the buses that arrive from the bordering countries(Argentina, Uruguay) although they pass by, they do not have lines that stop at the Laguna bus terminal( View on satellite map ), municipality and city of Santa Catarina to which Farol de Santa Marta </em> belongs.

Nature above all

Farol de Santa Marta </em>, is located in a cape of the same name in the south of the state of Santa Catarina, the place is named after its famous Faro, one of the most powerful in Brazil and the world.

The beaches of Farol de Santa Marta </em> are extensive and quiet, one begins to walk and little by little they become deserted, with huge expanses of sand and dunes; The village(former fishing community that grew around the Lighthouse) is charming with colorful houses suspended over the hills, and the famous "Lantern" visible from all sides.

Farol de Santa Marta </em> is natural beauty, ecological spirit, rustic atmosphere(for those who know a little reminiscent of the Uruguayan beach Cabo Polonio) and at the same time has the touch of exclusivity that gives it being a beach destination outside of the classic circuit of beaches of Santa Catarina that everyone knows.

Other attractions include a beautiful sunset, artisanal fishing and indigenous cemeteries thousands of years old, the so-called " Sambaquis ", are of great archaeological wealth, a legacy that allows access to customs of the pre-Columbian cultures that inhabited the region.

As previously mentioned in this article, Farol de Santa Marta is not one of the easiest destinations to arrive from the south of Brazil, those who wish to arrive from the outside by air will have to combine some hours of buses from the airport "Hercílio Luz" in Florianópolis( View on satellite map ), which is the closest to 130 kilometers.

Another option by air is to arrive at the Porto Alegre airport, 350 kilometers away from Laguna, it can be an economic option to take into account especially for those arriving from Montevideo or Buenos Aires, since flights to Porto Alegre are usually much cheaper than to Florianópolis; although then the bus trip from Porto Alegre to Laguna is almost 7 hours.

Arriving in Laguna by bus from Florianópolis

The companies that make the Florianópolis - Laguna trip are the SantoAnjo and the Eucatur , the prices are around the 28 Reais and the Travel time is 2 hours. Combining the services of the 2 companies, they leave for Laguna omnibus approximately from hour to hour.

Arriving in Laguna by bus from Porto Alegre

From Porto Alegre to Laguna there are buses for companies Eucatur and by SantoAnjo , the price is around 55 Reais and time of travel is approximately 6 and a half hours.

Arrive by bus from Argentina or Uruguay

As neither Laguna nor Farol de Santa Marta remain in the traditional circuit of regular beach destinations of Argentines and Uruguayans, there are no stops in Laguna provided by companies in their services in southern Brazil. However, any bus going to Florianópolis from the south passes through the junction of the BR-101 route that leads to Laguna( View on satellite map ), therefore it is possible to descend at that junction and take an urban bus that will take us after a 12-kilometer trip to the center of Laguna.

In this sense it is very important to note that you must take passage to Florianópolis, and ask the driver to indicate us to descend at the junction of BR-101 with the road that goes to Laguna , we know that It can be a problem for companies that do not have Brazilian drivers and therefore do not know this crossing, in general with Pluma we know that there is no problem because the drivers are Brazilian, although it is important to clarify before buying the ticket, the same should occur with TTL(Brazilian company) from Montevideo, however with Argentine companies such as FlechaBus and Crucero del Norte, this may be impossible, due to the limited knowledge of the BR-101 route by Argentine drivers. Consult with these companies directly before taking the ticket if it is possible to get off at that junction. Just in case, traveling with Brazilian companies, remind drivers several times that we are going to descend at the crossing to Laguna, and as far as possible remember them at the closest previous stops: Porto Alegre or Torres, or a hostel before leaving Rio. Grande do Sul and enter Santa Catarina.
